THE BOOK, Bible Illuminated has profound messages about what it means to live in harmony with our fellow human beings, the importance of justice and mutual respect, and the urgent need to care for the planet we cohabit.

Some of the images that accompany the text are graphic. But they are a testimony of what can happen when justice and the stewardship of the earth’s resources are treated with indifference.

Others, we trust, depict ways in which humans have successfully reached out to one another in times of dire need. The texts that are highlighted in yellow are those linked to specific images, usually ones appearing on the same or a near-by page. Often they represent key biblical themes. We urge you to read these thoughtfully and to read the surrounding text to better understand the situations they address.

“If you didn’t know this was a Bible you might think The Book was a “goth” magazine, or perhaps something you’d find in a doctor’s office. The front cover is a close-up of a translucent green eye, caked with black makeup and staring eerily from the page. On the back is a photo of a faceless figure wearing a black hooded sweat shirt…

Inside, photos of celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Bono and John Lennon are interspersed with pictures of heroic figures like Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King, Jr. A veil-covered African woman holding a young child illustrates the story of Mary and Jesus. Images taken from the news — both jarring and poignant — radiate a message of social justice.”

ABC-affiliate station WISN based in Milwaukee, WI ran a story about the US release of Bible Illuminated during their morning news show on October 29th.

Columbus, OH ABC-affiliate station WSYX featured Bible Illuminated in their nightly broadcast on October 28th. The segment included interviews with local religious experts, and shows early signs of the impact that the US release is sure to have.

WATE-Knoxville

WATE in Knoxville, TN featured Bible Illuminated in their nightly news program on October 29th.

KTNV in Las Vegas aired a segment about Bible Illuminated’s stateside debut on October 29th.
